COVID-19: An update from the Coal Authority

We recognise during these unprecedented times that our customers may need some additional support and we want to do all that we can to help.

That’s why we have decided to pause our planned price increases from 1 April 2020 on all products and services for a period of 6 months.

Our business critical functions are continuing to operate as our employees are now working from home but we understand that just like for many of you, it is not business as usual at the moment.

We’re continually adapting the way that we are working as the situation develops. As many of our colleagues now have children at home and other caring responsibilities, we need to make changes to some of our services.

From 24 March, our offices in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire will be closed until further notice.

This means that we are now unable to access our paper records, which has the potential to affect our colleagues using historical coal mining information. Work undertaken using our electronic data will continue as usual.

It also means we will no longer be able to process any postal mail that we receive. If you send us cheques in the post to make payment, we would ask that you call us to arrange alternative payment methods.

Our telephone numbers, along with our email and website contacts, remain unchanged so please continue to contact us using these methods.

We will do our best to respond to all enquiries as soon as possible but as you’ll understand, this may be outside of our normal response times. Where this is the case we will ensure that this is clearly communicated to you wherever we can.

Our Mansfield offices will remain closed until further notice, including our Mining Heritage Centre. You can access some of our information using our online viewer, or you can contact us on 0345 762 6848 to request information in other ways.

Our 24/7 hazard line and our services to protect drinking water will not be affected. Please continue to report coal mining hazards or concerns on 01623 646333.

We’re constantly reviewing our products and services and we’ll keep you updated with any proposed changes to these.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss anything further with us, please contact us on 0345 762 6848.
