Moor End Lane update: 26 July 2024
Information for residents
Ground collapse at Moorend Houses, Silkstone Common
Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.
Progress this week
As planned this week, we made progress on the following:
- We completed the works on the site compound and car park. The car park is now available for use and for bin storage.
- We completed the foundation investigations, via the digging of trial pits. As a result of the findings, the engineers agreed that no changes to the design of the cap were necessary. It was decided that a slight alteration in the dimensions of the temporary works should be made, to ensure the cap could be built inside the piles. We are in the process of amending the design and will share this with Wardell Armstrong.
- We installed the transmitter and solar panel for the tilt monitors. These are now fully operational and will notify us immediately of any movement.
- We arranged a drop-in meeting with residents on 25 July.
- We completed the weekly survey of the monitoring studs.
Next week
The current schedule for next week is as follows:
- There will be no contractors on site on Monday or Tuesday.
- On Wednesday, we will start works to provide an emergency egress route. This will involve removing the partition walls and fences between some of the gardens. We have spoken directly with the affected residents.
- The stud monitoring will take place every week on a Wednesday. The surveyor will continue to access the studs via the rear of the properties.
- The GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) survey on the access road and the drainage survey are planned to be completed this week.
- A colleague from the Coal Authority will be available for a drop-in session on Tuesday 30 July between 6 and 7pm. Please come along if you have any questions or concerns.
Please note that we may occasionally need to vary the order of scheduled works without notice although we will try to avoid this where possible.
Working hours fall between 8am and 6pm. There is likely to be some noise and disruption, although we will keep these to a minimum, particularly before 9am and after 5pm. If you do have any concerns at any time, please let us know.
Works to the mine shaft
Due to the minor change required to the design, the works to the shaft will be slightly delayed. We will confirm once the updated design has been signed off and the works can begin.
In the meantime, we will continue to speak to residents individually about their circumstances and concerns, as well as via the represented contact.
Next update:
We will provide a further update on Friday 2 August.
