Dunvant Road update: 6 March 2025

We wanted to give you an update about our works to remediate the ground collapse on Dunvant Road. As you know, to ensure public safety we have closed the road and put diversions in place. This allowed us to carry out extensive investigations to help design our plans to remediate the collapsed area. These investigations have shown the collapse was caused by historic coal mine workings.

Our works to repair the ground collapse

You will have noticed that we started our works to repair the road on 10 February and we expect these to last 16 weeks. We understand that works of this nature and can be disruptive and unsettling and will do all we can to minimise the impact for residents. We have fenced off our working area on Dunvant Road to ensure public safety, however, pedestrians will have access to a footpath for the duration of the works.

We have worked with our contractors to ensure residents can retain access to their driveways. Throughout the works we may need to temporarily restrict access to individual driveways for a short period to safely complete our works. If this is the case, we will liaise directly with affected residents to ensure suitable arrangements are in place with sufficient notice.

As with all works of this type there may be some noise from machinery on site during the working day, but we will do all we can to minimise any disruption this may cause residents. We understand works of this nature can be disruptive and unsettling and we will continue to support the local community as the works progress.

Our hours of work are between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, although you may notice contractors arriving on site earlier than this for site briefings at 7.30am. We will do what we can to limit vehicle movements around school pick up times.
