Moor End Lane update: 19 July 2024

Information for residents

Ground collapse at Moorend Houses, Silkstone Common

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Progress this week

As planned this week, we made progress on the following:

  • We started work on the site compound.
  • We completed the remaining 5 pre-condition property surveys on 15 July. We will complete a further survey once the works are complete.
  • We completed our first survey of the monitoring studs on 17 July. We will continue to monitor these weekly.

Next week

The current schedule for next week is as follows:

  • Works on the car park will start and should be completed by the end of the week.
  • The GPR (Ground Penetrating Radar) survey on the access road and the drainage survey will be completed towards the end of the week.
  • As instructed by your appointed engineer, we will be digging trial pits at the back of 2 properties to complete foundation investigations. This will take place on 23 July. There will be some initial noise from the pneumatic equipment, but this should be minimal. We will fill these with concrete on the same day and once the works are completed, we will complete a permanent restoration. We have communicated directly about this with the residents who are immediately affected.
  • The tilt monitors installed on several properties require a transmitter and solar panel, which will be mounted to a pole. We will be concreting this pole in place at the rear of the properties on 23 July.
  • Colleagues from the Coal Authority will be available onsite on Thursday 25 July from 6.30pm to speak to residents about any concerns and discuss progress.

Please note that we may occasionally need to vary the order of scheduled works without notice although we will try to avoid this where possible.

Working hours fall between 8am and 6pm. There is likely to be some noise and disruption, although we will keep these to a minimum, particularly before 9am and after 5pm. If you do have any concerns at any time, please let us know.

Works to the mine shaft

We are on track to start work on the emergency exit route and the works to the mine shaft before the end of July.

In the meantime, we will continue to speak to residents individually about their circumstances and concerns, as well as via the represented contact.

Next update:

We will provide a further update on Friday 26 July.
