Moor End Lane update: 16 August 2024

Information for residents

Ground collapse at Moorend Houses, Silkstone Common

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

Progress this week

  • There has been no activity on site this week, as the temporary works plan was being prepared and reviewed.
  • We received the temporary works plan on Wednesday. As part of our due diligence processes, our engineer completed a technical review of the plans, and identified the need for a small amendment to the drawing and associated calculation. This is not unusual when planning complex engineering designs such as this one. We have therefore requested an updated plan from our contractor.
  • In the meantime, we shared the plan with your appointed engineer on Thursday for their review, with a note explaining our engineer’s assessment. We confirmed we would send the revised plan once received.
  • We also sent the results from the Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) survey to the appointed engineer on Thursday.
  • We completed the weekly survey of the monitoring studs.
  • As agreed with residents, there was no onsite meeting this week.

Next week

  • This week will continue to be quieter as there will be no contractors on site until after the revised temporary works plan has been signed off.
  • The appointed engineer will review the information we’ve provided.
  • We will provide additional video footage from the GPR survey to the appointed engineer.
  • We will send an updated temporary works plan to include the additional amendments to the appointed engineer.
  • The stud monitoring will take place as usual on Wednesday. The surveyor will continue to access the studs via the rear of the properties.
  • As there will be no activity on site this week, we are not planning a drop-in session. However, if residents would like this to happen, please let us know and we will be happy to arrange this.

Works to the mine shaft

Due to the minor change required to the design, the works to the shaft will be slightly delayed. Once the updated design has been signed off, we expect the works to start within 2 weeks.

In the meantime, we will continue to speak to residents individually about their circumstances and concerns, as well as via the represented contact.

Next update:

We will provide a further update on Friday 23 August.
