Information for residents

Ground collapse at Moorend Houses, Silkstone Common

You may be aware that the Coal Authority changed its name to the Mining Remediation Authority on 28 November to better reflect the work we do. You can find out more about this on our website.  Our new contact details appear at the bottom of this update.

Progress this week

  • We completed the changes to the reinforcement cage for the steel reinforced concrete cap. We inspected this on Thursday and photographs from the inspection were shared with your independent engineer.
  • As a result, we completed the concrete pour for the capping of the mineshaft on Friday 6 December.
  • We completed the weekly survey of the monitoring studs and shared these results with your appointed engineer.
  • As agreed with residents, there was no onsite meeting this week.

Next week

  • Once the concrete has cured, we will begin reinstatement works.
  • The stud monitoring will take place as usual on Wednesday. The surveyor will continue to access the studs via the rear of the properties.
  • We will continue to speak to residents individually about their circumstances and concerns, as well as via the represented contact.

Updated schedule

The contractors have issued a revised schedule and a copy is included in the download section of our website. As you will see, we expect the mineshaft remediation works to be fully completed by 20 December. The contractors will then have a break over Christmas before returning on 2 January to complete the garden and driveway remediation works, before decommissioning the site later in the month.

We appreciate your understanding regarding the delays in the schedule, which have been influenced by several factors. We will continue to work closely with our Contractor in planning the remainder of the works.
