Dewar Avenue update: 14 May 2025
We wanted to provide an update to the local community about the recent subsidence incident affecting six properties on Dewar Avenue.
Meeting on 12 May
We met with the residents of the directly affected properties on 12 May. We confirmed that our independent structural engineers have completed their assessments of the properties and reviewed the findings from our ground investigations. They have concluded that the properties are beyond repair and have recommended that they are demolished. As a result, we worked with Fife Council who have now issued dangerous building notices to those directly affected residents.
We understand that this is a very difficult time for these residents, and we are supporting them on an individual basis. To reassure residents of nearby properties, we are continuing to monitor Dewar Avenue.
Community Centre
We appreciate residents and the wider community are also keen to understand what is happening with the Community Centre. We have not made any decisions at this stage, as our priority has been ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the residents whose homes have been affected. While we carry out further monitoring to establish if it is safe to reopen or repair the building, it will need to remain closed. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this is causing as we recognise this is an important community resource.
Next steps
We will work with partners, including Fife Council, to plan the safe demolition of the six affected properties. We will update this website once we have more information about this, to explain what will happen and when. We will also provide an update on the Community Centre as soon as we can.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
