Dewar Avenue update: 23 May 2025
Information for residents
We were notified on 23 April 2025 about a subsidence event affecting several properties at Dewar Avenue. We have secured the site and have completed our ground investigation works, which confirmed that the damage has been caused by historical coal mining.
Next steps
Following our previous updates, a structural engineer has been inspecting the affected properties on a regular basis. Based on these inspections, they have recommended that the properties are demolished in a controlled way to minimise the risk of collapse and to make the area safe. We are working with our contractors and Fife Council who have issued the dangerous building notices for the demolition works to start on Tuesday 27 May. These works are expected to take up to six weeks.
We appreciate that this news is likely to be unsettling for local residents. Please be assured that our monitoring indicates that there has not been any movement beyond the directly affected properties, and we will continue to monitor the surrounding area for movement both during these works and after.
How will the works affect me?
The demolition of these properties will involve an element of noise, dust and additional traffic onto Dewar Avenue, including HGVs for the delivery of machinery and equipment. We understand this is likely to be disruptive and we will work to minimise the impact on residents, including installing screens around the site to mitigate any dust. The works will be undertaken during normal working hours from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday and work is not planned in the evenings or weekends.
We will continue to keep you updated on this website and by newsletter as works progress. Colleagues will also be on site every day during the works.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are grateful for your support and patience.
