Dewar Avenue update: 04 July 2025

Update for residents

Following our last update on 23 May, we wanted to update residents about our progress.

On 20 June, we safely demolished the six affected properties; we continue to support impacted residents. The site has been secured with safety fencing, and we’ll continue to monitor the area. The demolition will allow us to proceed with the appropriate remediation plan. We thank residents for their patience whilst we carried out this vital work.

We are continuing to survey the wider area around Dewar Avenue and the community centre. We will continue this work on a twice weekly basis. Since our monitoring commenced there has been no ground movement around the wider Dewar Avenue area.

The Community Centre

As you’re aware, the community centre has been closed since the subsidence incident, due to our concerns about the stability of the ground nearby. Following our demolition of the affected houses, we’ve been able to begin drilling and grouting at the rear of the community centre. This should stabilise the area, preventing further ground movement.

If these works proceed as planned and we’re able to confirm that the building is safe, we’ll be hoping to restore partial access to the front of the community centre in mid-July. We’ll work in consultation with Fife council to update residents as soon as we have the community centre’s partial reopening date.

We’re pleased to announce that the rifle club next to the community centre has been reopened, as we have concluded that the building is safe.

Next Steps

We’re currently discussing different ground treatment options with Fife Council. Once we’ve established a suitable plan for the restoration of the site, we’ll provide a further update to residents.

Our structural engineers continue to survey nearby properties to ensure their safety.
