Solvay Banks update: December 2023
This update provides more information about the mine shaft collapse on Solvay Banks Park.
Our investigations into the cause of the collapse are ongoing. We recently exposed the mine shaft cap which is nine metres squared, intact and in good condition.
The cap is larger than we anticipated. We are therefore, looking at alternative treatment methods for the shaft, by leaving the cap in place. This will probably consist of drilling and grouting works through the cap.
As we are continuing with the design of our treatment, we have refilled and levelled the site pending these further works. Our work will continue into next year and we will provide a further update once we have agreed our treatment design.
