Thornwood Avenue update: January 2024

Ground collapse – Thornwood Avenue, Ayr

This fact sheet provides information about the ground collapse on Thornwood Avenue and the work that the Coal Authority will be required to carry out.

We understand that the ground collapse on Thornwood Avenue will be causing concern and disruption for a number of you and we thank you for your patience and understanding during the current situation. We were called on to site on Sunday 26 March due to a collapse within the road and grass area on Thornwood Avenue. We promptly secured the site to create a safe exclusion zone.

Mines haft Remediation Works and Reinstatement

Our drilling contractors will return to site on 9 January to install long term monitoring equipment and we anticipate that these works will last up to two weeks. We will fully reinstate the road surface once these installation works are finished.

How will the works affect me?

We really appreciate your continued patience and understanding throughout this process and are grateful for your cooperation with the remaining works. We partially reopened sections of the road to allow parking and access to driveways, however, we can’t reopen the road until all works are complete.

As we mentioned in our last update, we need to re-extend the fencing boundary to create a larger area to allow for these works to be completed. We respectfully ask that any cars parked in the area highlighted below in red, are parked elsewhere from 8am on Tuesday 9 January 2024 whilst we carry out this next phase of work. The affected properties will have pedestrian access to their respective properties.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause and are grateful for your support and patience. We will highlight any other key dates as works progress.
