Ground breaking developments
Working collaboratively with Amur, the Anaerobic Digestion arm of AB Agri, a breakthrough was made at AB Agri’s Innovation Lab, where we found a method to use ochre as an additive in the Anaerobic Digestion process.
The Ochre (an iron rich material) captured in our mine water treatment schemes was found to be able to manage odours given off by Hydrogen Sulphide during the AD process. This naturally produced, UK based product can replace a manufactured, imported product – so has the potential to also provide carbon savings.
What does this mean?
Our ochre is shown to be 30% more effective than conventional iron products, and the use of this by-product within the Anaerobic Digestion process also delivers savings in Hydrogen Sulphide treatment costs of approximately £100 per day, making up a substantial cost saving in the long run for plant operators.
