Camberwell Drive update: May 2022

This fact sheet provides information about the recent ground collapse at the grassed verge on Camberwell Drive where the Coal Authority are currently carrying out investigation work.

Ground Investigations

As mentioned in our previous newsletter the Coal Authority are aware of a recorded mine entry in
this area and our initial investigation has confirmed the presence of this mine shaft which has
caused this ground collapse. We now need to conduct a more thorough ground investigation in
order to confirm the sub-soil properties and bedrock depth beneath the greenspace which will then
enable us to design a safe-working platform above the shaft. Our works are scheduled to start on
Monday 09 May 2022 and will last for approximately 2 weeks. The result of this next phase of
works will enable us to carry out the full investigation and eventual remediation of the mine shaft.

How will the works affect me?

As the affected area is on the grassed verge as you enter Camberwell Drive, there should be
minimal disruption to residents, while we carry out our works. There may be some disruption to
enable the unloading of plant and equipment but these will be kept to a minimum. We will continue
to inform all residents with key dates of our work as the project moves forward.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and are grateful for your support and patience.
