Camberwell Drive update: 13 November 2024
Information for residents
This briefing contains the latest update for residents. Previous briefings, FAQs and wider information are available here.
We’ve made progress on the preparatory works that need to be completed before the works to treat the mine shaft can begin.
Temporary car park
The work to the temporary car park was completed on 6 November and the fencing around the car park will remain in place until it is in use. This is to prevent this area being used by unauthorised vehicles in the meantime. The footpath to the green space beyond the car park will remain open to the public.
Following resident’s feedback, we are aware that our contractor’s welfare van can sometimes be noisy when they arrive on site due to the engine running. The welfare van powers the heating and water supply which is used throughout the day whilst our contractors are on site. We have asked our contractors to keep this to a minimum when arriving on site early in the morning.
Utility services
As updated in the residents meeting on 5 September, the utility services which are located in the area of the collapsed mineshaft will need to be diverted before the main works to the mineshaft can start. We are working with Tameside Council and the utility providers to agree suitable dates to transfer these services and will keep residents informed once these dates have been finalised.
Next steps
We will be starting the second phase of site investigations and are working with our consultants to agree the schedule for these works. These works will inform our plans on the final design of the mineshaft. We do not anticipate any road closures or traffic management in place whilst these works take place.
As mentioned previously, to allow us to complete the drilling and grouting works to the mineshaft, we will need to remove the large tree and the conifer in the immediate area of the mineshaft collapse. These works will cause minimal disruption to residents as the work will be carried out outside the fenced area of where the mineshaft collapse is located. We will put back any planting to areas once our final works to the mineshaft are complete.
